State GuidelinesState guidelines for gifted services requires a minimum 5 segments a week.
Students cannot be excused to return to class for homeroom functions on Target days. Ideally, classroom celebrations should be scheduled on non-Target days. On occasion, it is necessary and unavoidable to schedule field trips, speakers, etc. on Target days. When possible, class days are switched that week to accommodate state guidelines. Exceptions to schedule changes include but are not limited to, school-wide assemblies, field day, system-wide testing (CogAT, IOWA, GA Milestones, eligibility testing, motivation portfolio evaluation). |
CCSD Prevailing PracticesThe gifted resource classroom provides a full-day of academic rigor. It is a standards-based advanced academic course. Although students are responsible for understanding the concepts taught in their homeroom on Target days, they should not be required to make-up missed classwork or homework on Target days. This includes weekly assessments given on Target days. Homeroom teachers should create a system that allows students to find out what they’ve missed and provide an opportunity for them to seek assistance if needed.
